Made it to Seattle! Now for some shows…

I just made it to Seattle, safe and sound, after a fun, gorgeous cross-country drive.  Getting settled, getting organized, and getting pumped because some of my favorite bands in the whole wide world are playing in Seattle this month!  What luck!  I know none of these are Seattle bands, but I’m really excited to see some friends and familiar faces and check out some of these great venues:

May 5 – Coyote Grace @ the Triple Door (opening for Girlyman)

Discovered this band via the AMAZING documentary “RIOT ACTS: Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance,” and immediately loved the songwriting and delivery.  Can’t wait to see it live!

May 7 – Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers @ Showbox at the Market (with NEEDTOBREATHE)

The SK6ers crew are good friends at this point, and I’ve seen them many times in the last couple years, including the Chicago stop on this NEEDTOBREATHE tour.  Based on the schedule, there might even be some time to hang out and hopefully get a quick interview for the blog… we’ll see.

May 13 – The Shondes @ The Crocodile

I first saw the Shondes (“shonde” is yiddish for “disgrace”) at a recovery benefit in New Orleans back in 2006, then had the pleasure of opening for them in Chicago with Cobalt & the Hired Guns a couple years later.  They were also featured in the RIOT ACTS film.  Plus, my friend Jesse’s side project from Cobalt, The Homoticons, are opening for them at the Chicago stop of this tour.  This is an awesome and powerful band comprised of really good people.

May 16 – Frightened Rabbit / Maps & Atlases @ Neumos

Frightened Rabbit is probably my favorite new band in the world, after falling deeply in love with their 2008 album The Midnight Organ Fight some time ago but missed their Chicago stop last year because I was on tour.  SO EXCITED to finally see this band live and in person!  Plus, Maps & Atlases is one of those bigger Chicago local bands that I never got a chance to see, so that works out nicely.

May 26 – I Fight Dragons @ Showbox SoDo (with 3OH!3 and Cobra Starship)

Love these guys.  Won’t say much more, because I already did an interview with them before I left Chicago, which will be going up in advance of this show. Excitedexcitedexcited

May 28 – State Radio @Moore Theater (with John Butler Trio)

One of my favorite bands in the world, that I got the honor to play 2 shows with this spring, opening for another very highly regarded band.  This was a show I didn’t know about until my pollstar.com search this morning, and I freaked out a little.
